Cable switches

Years ago I couldn't find an aftermarket remote-release cable to connect my Contax to a flashlight release button. The flashlight used a plug as for the headphones on a walkman.
So I had the idea: I cutted my Contax cable switch L30 in the middle of the cable and fitted chinch-connectors on the ends. I also made a cable with a chinch connector and the plug for the flashlight.
If you do so, you can also fit extension cables with those chinch connectors to your cable switch. This will be less expensive and more flexible than to buy all those three different cable switches from Contax.

Hi all,
I own a Contax 139 Q , Yashica FXD and FX3 super 2000 and need to know whether a Cable Switch type S as decribed below

[Cable Switch S" and the small extra
cord is referred to as "Connectoe Cord R6SJ" and is for Conatax RTS and Yaschica FR camera series. The release has a lock on side which has marl
"L" on it.]

Anyone with experience with these cords please help this greenhorn. From Kyocera webpage. The FXD uses the Contax L type and other older FX series uses a standard type according to the Kyoceraa Yashica doent produce anymore these cables

The 139 Q maual is not much help which states that " Real time electromagnetic Release System featuring quartz- timed operating sequence; auxiliary remote release via "release socket" (electronic accessory connection ) on the camera body "

Can someone help clarify please and TQ in advance

I've used my 139Q for years and had many cable releases cease to work for one reason or another. It is not necessary to use the "S" series cable - any well-made generic cable will do. I'm currently using a Nikon cable for manual cameras. Just try it out first to make sure it fits the release socket at the upper right of the camera back. I'm not sure this answers your question, but I hope it helps.

Thanks Lyn,
I am trying to get the cable from e-bay and cant test it out so I need to be rather precise.

>I presume the connector R6SJ is the one that I got with the cable I bought second hand. It is a short cable 10cm long which has a socket at one end which accepts the 139 fitting plug from the cable switch S and has a plug on the other end which fits into the socket on my Yashica FR and FRII

Strictly speaking the cable switch you describe is only for the original RTS and FR series bodies . The newer one [cant remember the model no.] is for the subsequent bodies - it is long and narrow and has a screw thread on the connector unlike the old one which was a bit like a PC cord connector as I recall . You can trip the shutter as many have testified using all manner of connectors , but I'm not sure this is so good for your camera........ Steve
