Additional G lenses

Has anyone heard anything regarding possible additional lenses for the G system? I for one would love to have a 75mm f/1.4

Spoke with Kyocera repair specialist. He asked a lens developer at Zeiss: There are no other lenses in the pipeline for the Contax G-System.

WHY ARE THERE NO FAST LENSES FOR THE CONTAX G1 OR G2?? WHY IS THERE NO 25MM?? WHY IS THERE NO 75MM?? FOCUSING ACCURACY?? WHAT ARE YOUR THOUGHTS??

Steve,

I will offer my well thought, but uninformed opinion.

Fast Lenses (f1.4, 1.2) are larger and more expensive than the slower (f2 and f2.8) lenses that are currently available. To keep lenses small, light, and less expensive, faster lenses were sacraficed.

Why doesn't Contax-CJ produce a 25mm and a 75mm? The G1 and G2 are fine cameras with a realively limited market. They are pricey compared to many slr's. Although I and other find the G2 Rangefinder satisfies most of my photo needs, many more photographers use SLR's and P&S. Contax & CZ came out with a sensible range of lenses 16mm, 21mm, 28mm, 35mm, 45mm, and 90mm and a zoom. It is hard to believe there will be additional lenses. My thought that Contax's development investment dollars will be for a digitial body that uses existing lenses. I might add that in the G3 Wish List thread, others have proposed some evolutionary improvements for the G2.

Focusing accuracy: Although we cannot see the final focus, I have experienced very accurate focus.

Steve, I agree with Howard, and in any case, the 28mm is close to 25, and the 90mm is close to the 75. Contax probably do not make fast lenses because the optical focussing system would be blocked by the lense (large diameter). Regarding focus accuracy, my G2 works very well with the 90mm lense which has a shallow depth of field when used wide open. This is a good test. William

Idle speculation, but I think we're unlikely to see any more G lenses unless Contax puts the resources into additional G bodies. They may decide to do so at such a time, probably filling in focal length gaps rather than making faster versions of existing focal lengths. I'd think they'd be cautious about issuing lenses that aren't backwards compatible across the G line (such as the zoom, which won't work on the G1).
