Canon Ixus 300 Problem

As there is no forum for the now out of date Ixus 300, I am hoping that someone here might be able to help. Recently I am getting 'bright light' areas on some of my photos and I have no idea why.
It is generally on the right hand side of the image and can also be seen in the viewfinder before the photo is taken. Any ideas???
