Given that many of us routinely keep a UV filter on the lens, is there any reason to remove this filter when using a polarizing filter?

> Every air-glass surface you add (and each filter adds two) increases flare (unwanted non-image light) which will diminish contrast across the board and diminish detail in deep shadows. Any unnecessary filter, including the standard haze filter should be removed for any critical work, especially that which involves holding deep shadow detail. If you must leave a haze filter on all the time, make sure it is one of very high quality with no scratches.
