Contax II

Is there anybody having experience with Contax II/IIa ?

C. Schefold

Yes. I've had a IIa since the mid-50s and it's still working perfectly.

Hi there!

I have a IIa and a III and I love them both; they still do their job very good, and I like this old mechanical feeling. My favorite lens is the Sonnar 2/85 and the Biogon 21, which is marvelous. These cameras give You the feeling to be the "master of Your pics". A real Contax-fan should own one!!!

Warmest regards
Wolfgang

Look here - Henry Scherer also does the Contax III - http://www.zeisscamera.com/ContaxIIa/Prices.html#iiia%20lightmtr

This guy sells the cells (bad alteration) - http://www.goldenapple.com/WWR/

The folks in the UK who now make the Weston meter sell all sorts of selenium cells and might do the work.

In Russia Oleg is very inexpensive and very good and does good work on Kievs so I wouldn't be surprised if he worked on meters - http://www.okvintagecamera.com/cameras.html

Hope that gets what you need.

John, In case you don't get any other replies, maybe this list of repair services will come in handy. You'll have to do a lot of scrolling and read which models they each specialize in, but it looks fairly extensive internationally. I know here in the US Henry Scherer is highly regarded for his old Contax rangefinder work. I am using W.W. Umbach at present for my Contaflex Super (also in the US), but he also specializes in Zeiss Ikon of all kinds plus Voigtlander. There are listings for the UK on this site. Good luck. I was told that the meters in those models are Selenium, and not something that is generally undertaken in repair even by the very good surgeon-like repair people. (If I am wrong - please correct me). http://medfmt.8k.com/mf/repairsites.html -Lynn

That's "alliteration" not "alteration" I know nothing of his work

Reading Michael's post, I see I am wrong in saying that selenium cell replacement is not commonly done. I'm glad to be wrong in this case! -Lynn

Hi a big thank-you to all those that responded to my enquiry, was very helpfull.
