Contax 137MA viewfinder problem

My viewfinder image has blurred out on me {during mid roll}, actual focus on film is OK. Also,prior to this, once during a shoot, the film stopped advancing, and I didn't catch it. Everything sounded OK but I had multiple exposures mid roll. The film advance returned to normal afterwards. The problem with the viewfinder still exists.

I had a similar problem with a 167MT a few years ago. It was caused by the film advance going slightly beyond the correct stopping point, such that the mirror started to move up again. The viewfinder became blurred because the mirror had not stopped in the fully down position.

You can check if this phenomenon is the same in your camera by checking the developed film. Check the spacing between the frames. With a faulty motor drive such as I had, the space between the frames was slightly wider than normal. I didn't notice this until I tried to mount the film in a scanner's film holder and then found that the frames on the film did not line up with the plastic frames of the holder.
