Contax 137MD

Very inexpensive Contax SLR with exceptional beauty in its cloth shutter. I like this camera better than the Leica R4 I was using. Not so strange eh?

I like the 137MD very much:
You can do anything you need with just one finger.
I mostly work with the 1.4/35 and 1.4/85. This combinations are very well-balanced !

137MA with manual settings would be the better choice.after some time end-of-film brake does not work. repair will help for some time... i like this camera very much until i jumped to 159mm which i had to give up(sticking diaphragm-lever). after the big crash(see my message) when camera fired only 50% correct ttl-flash i gave up shooting contax. i started using fx-3 and fx-2. btw: there is an auto-off-version of 137MD. if you have no auto-off for the lightmeter, batteries could drain when camera is switched on accidentally. the fact that it uses standard-batteries(motor and meter sharing the same) could help but not everytime. i am looking forward to a possible rtsIV. i am sure kyocera would like to better than leica and offer a r9-like-camera but more sophisticated only offering features we really need, such as horizontal bubble-level with beeps. there is such an instrument(tchibo offered it in germany). it has mechnical analog angle-meter integrated. i use it to measure building-and sun-height with a sundial(sort of sun-position/time calculator-disk.
