It seems the new RXll has been dropped from contax new website.
For whatever reason the absence of this camera which hardly make it to our market other than Japan, we are non the wiser. Can someone shed some light. Has its demise come so soon? Hope not.

I think the answer is actually quite simple - the new site everyone is talking about is Kyocera U.S. by the look of it . As they were the ones who apparently decided not to import that body , its hardly surprising they wouldnt bother to put it up on their site...... Steve

It's interesting...I went to the Contax U.K. site, and there was the RXII...complete with DFI indicator !

...maybe someone forgot to tell our English friends that the point of the RXII was that Digital Focusing had been removed...

I find it interesting how many articles, cars, cameras etc. where manufacturers tell us they are "new and improved models" seem to be = improved by removing or simplifying features that are expensive to make. I think = the digital focus assist is one of the most useful features on my RX and if = it is not on the RXII, I for one, will not be buying it. I looked at this = web site and could not see any difference in any specification from my RX - = is there something I am missing?? Talking of Kyocera, has anyone else out there bought the Finecam S5 5Mpix digital and been disappointed. Takes great technical photos but general ones seem to lack that sparkle that I = got with previous Leica Digilux 4.3.

I have just bought an RXII and I think it is a great camera. The weight feels just right and the dials are easily accessible when you are taking the photograph. With regards to the new website - I think the camera described therein is the RX and not the RXII - as the RXII does not have the digital focus assist. However it does have a large bright viewfinder which I understand is bigger than the RX - that to me is very important. My previous camera was an Olympus OM2N, with the 50 macro lens - optically superb. I have used this camera without fault for the last 15 years - I am confident the RXII will be a worthy replacement.

Hugh,

I'm curious, where are you located? RXII can't be found in US and I'm actually thinking about getting it, even though I don't have an opportunity to "test" it first. It seems like the right camera to me (I don't really like the idea of DFI, I prefer brighter viewfinder instead). I wonder about the comment you made that viewfinder is larger than RX. From the specs, I don't seem to find anything that would indicate that. Magnification remained the same, brightness is supposed to be higher, but no mention of viewfinder being bigger. Is this your subjective opinion that it's larger, or you actually compared it to RX?

Thanks,
Mike.

I quickly read the report in Amateur Photographer recently but found no mention of the Custom Function control of the original RX.
Does anyone know if the RX11 has it? One of the functions I liked on the original was the ability to have the AE lock operate by light pressure on the shutter release rather than the switch on the body. Can I still do this on the latest version?

Hi Guys,

Looking at the site:

Right at the bottom there are listings and prices of current cameras. Can anyone tell me what the Aria D and the NX D are?

Cheers, Saras
