Leica and NonLeica Portrait Lenses with Character

G

Guest

I am looking for an older lens with "character" to contrast with today's perfectionism. Am not seeking to replicate the "soft" look of some SLR lenses, but just a classic with nice boukeh and preferably on the fast side (F2 or faster). Any suggestions and experience from Canon, Nikon Leica thread mounts?

If you have any ex&les, I would love to see some posted here or linked, if possible. Thanks!!!

35mm f/2 "first generation" 8 element Summicron, 50mm f/2 "first generation" 7 element Summicron, 85mm f/2 Nikkor, 50mm f/1.4 Nikkor. The Nikkor images don't look like the Summicron images but they all give you a "period" look with good to great sharpness.

Dear Christopher,

Here is a one taken by my father in the 50s with a 50mm 1/1.4 Nikkor.

My preferred lenses for the effect I suspect you are seeking are in addition to the Leica lenses mentioned by Al, the 1:2/90 Summicron (1959) and the 1:2,5/125 Hektor (1954).

Have fun,

Justin

Thank you all for the posts and pictures. I will try out my new (old) lenses and report back. -Christopher
