Yashica FRII FRI

>>Jeff, Why not send the Contax 137 to Duracell?< <

It was years ago now. There was no damage done, I caught it in time. I talked to someone from Duracell and they were going to send me new batteries but they never came. I don't know how the battery business works, but I heard that Duracell is just a brand/marketing name that buy batteries from where ever and put their wrapper on. Don't know if this is true, I just heard it. Can anone advise?

I hope someone out there may be able to offer some advice: I have a Yashica FR with a film-wind lever that won't move more than 0.5" and a mirror stuck in the "up" position. Has anyone experienced anything similar with their FR? The cost of sending this to a shop for repairs is too high (approx $140) as the camera itself is worth less than $50!? Thanks in advance, Yuske

I have an FR1 and am going through the process of replacing light seals and the mirror cushion. The camera is a hand-me-down and has been sitting around for several years in a drawer. Luckily the battery wasn't in it, so there was no problem when a new battery was inserted. The shutter and film advance all work fine.

One problem though is the the self timer knob. I can't seem to get it to work. It moves 90 deg aniticlockwise from the vertical but I feel no resistance when turning? Is it damaged? Or is it user error!

Duncan,

I'm new to Yashicas so I can't say anything for sure except that the self-timer on my used FR felt pretty limp when I got it. If you'd read the earlier part of this thread you'd know that I had problems with the film-advance winder and shutter which was my main concern when I contacted Mark Hama (Yashica specialist in Georgia www.markhama.com) on the recommendation of Jim0266. Anyway Mark Hama charged me a very reasonable $88 (inc return shipping) for a full overhaul...everything works and looks like new on my FR now (replaced bottom plate and shutter button gratis) including that limp self-timer.

Sorry for rambling but if a new battery in your FR1 didn't sort the self-timer then I'd really recommend Mark Hama...

Good luck, Yuske

Thank you Yuske.

I'll have a look at the link you sent. I'm wondering whether I am expecting too much from the camera. Afterall everything else on the camera works!

Thanks again.
