Good Yashica Lens

After reading the thread about "Yashica Lens" is made from below standard Carl Zeiss Lens, it's true or not is not important, but I have a idea to hear from some Yashica Lens users here can share they experience with good yashica Lens and their recommandation

Hello Hercules!

I own the old Yashica FR-I with a couple of Yashica ML lenses. And untill yesterday I was very satisfied. Especially when somebody in a lab was asking me what lens is so sharp, but...two days ago I took some pictures with me new (second hand) Contax T-2 and I changed my imagination about sharpness:)

I can say, that for a price less then 100$ for a single Yashica ML lens they are really, really good and worth of this money. But if you can afford Contax lenses you shouldn't be in a dilemma:) (unless you only make 4x6" prints).

Yoy were asking about some Y lens reccomendations: 1. Only ML lenses 2. 50mm 1:1,4 and 1:1,7 both are the sharpest Y lenses AFAIK I used also 28mm 1:2,8; 135mm 1:2,8 (portrait lens) and 200mm 1:4 (this one is good!) I am not professional and do not have many experience with other brands, but all these lenses are much better then chip, plastic lenses (ZOOMS!) made nowadays by some very well known manufacturers.

if you enlarge your negatives yourself or check the films with a loupe you will quickly see the difference between zeiss and others.

I have owned at one time or another, various Yashica lenses. Over all I think they are fine. I still own the 100mm macro lens that I bought second hand on e-bay. I think it is a very good lens both for 1:2 macro and for portraits. I recently traded in my 35-105 ML zoom. This also was a very nice lens. The reason why I traded it was that I have the vario sonnar 35-135 CZ zoom. I also owned (years ago) the 35-105DSB zoom. This was less sharp than the ML version. It is likely true that if you check photographs with a loup you will notice the difference, but I look at a photograph for the overall content and not through a loup. I'm glad Yashica lenses exist for those persons who want decent quality but can't afford Zeiss.

They used to have a nice little line up. If this observation is correct, that the line up is smaller and more specialised, have they paired it down to avoid competing with the higher-end Contax offerings? See the line-up here:

That's very interesting Lynn. The Dental Eye certainly looks like a Contax whereas I recall that Yashica cameras used to have their own style. I used to own Yashicas before I moved up to Contax although I cannot exactly remember the models. I wonder if the Dental Eye would make a good dedicated macro camera for general macro work, not just dental.No idea on price.
The Yashica T4 I have had for years and which has been all over the world with me, I recently gave to my son who has lost his own T4. It has now been travelling with him and is still producing great pictures.

I am sorry I do not remember the specific article. I was told about it while I was looking for a Yashica 70-210/4.5 ML. If I find the report I will post the details.

[Reinhold Schulte] I still use a Yashica 1.4 50 mm lens from time to time. In my opinion the image quality of this lens is a bit better than the 50mm CZ 1.4. I owned the 1.4 Planar and traded it in for the 1.7 to which the Yashica lens is a bit inferior. Still, all Yashica lenses I have used so far (fixed focal, no zooms) were excellent value for the price I paid. Does anybody have the 21mm Yashica ML lens and wants to get rid of it. I recently bought a pristine ML 200mm/4.0 from eBay, for a very modest sum (~95USD), and it included all the original accessories, cards and box. I must say I'm pleasantly surprised. It is all-metal, very sturdily built, the focusing helicoid is just as smooth as a Zeiss'. It produced crisp and constrasty slides, although I noticed a teeny bit of pincushion. I do not own a Tele-Tessar 200/4.0, so I cannot compare them, but these lenses look very much like twins. The official specs seem very similar. Is it possible the only difference is with the coating (ML for Yashica and T* for Zeiss?) In any case, if you can find one at that price, I think it is a very great bargain. Also on the plus side, it has the same filter thread as many Zeiss lenses (55mm). Other Yashica lenses have a 52mm thread.

I got my Yashica ML 200 f4 for a great price too. Smallish and has a very nice feel. Not a bad lens. Certainly can't complain for what they go for. Jeff

i will appreciate comments on the Yashica ML 300/5.6 and worth to buy as in an immaculate condition is available in a camera shop. Is it better than Tamron 60-300 SP zoom?
