LOUD noise from the camera

A

agp

I have put the word "loud" in capitals above, as it is referring to the volume of noise when the shutter crashes, not the lack of digital noise (superb) in teh photos. I sold two Leicas and several lenses to afford this camera, and it is great! However, it is literally unusable at quiet events, as the loud bang from the shutter makes everyone turn round! Can't use mirror lock-up, as some of the events are drama, where people move around. I have emailed Canon about this, in the hope that some kind of soundproofing kit is available. Does anyone have any ideas?

> Hi Andrew, I use the 20D. so am not familiar with your MKII: but 20D makes enough noise, especialy if you have been used to leica`s . But if you want a cheap or temporary solution you can make your own "Blimp" as these sound supressers are called. Get some very thick felt about 13mm-25mm thick- cut it long enough to be abl e to bend it in an elongated U shape rather like the back half of an eveready camera case-Cut two end pieces and glu them in each end of U.- Cut piece for Top and hinge with gaffer tape--Fit camera into U shape and after setting camera perhaps useing velcro close over top-- either cut hole for shutter release or use remote cable -and of course cut out hole for lens. Regards Gordon UK.

Thanks so much for this. I'm glad I'm not the only one to notice an issue. Thanks also for the word 'blimp', as I couldn't remember what the device was called. Unfortunately the only one I could find is $800! Anywhere to get one cheaper?

I'd like to know as well since I regularly do weddings and the noise is a little disturbing. Trying to take photojournalisic photos does require to be in stealth mode so quiteness is of the upmost importance.

Thanks for the helpful replies to my posting. No help at all from Canon - all they said was that they can't help! Don't regret buying the camera, but it is still an issue.

Contacted the person I guess that manufactures the blimp and they're backordered for a month. Glad I don't have a wedding to shoot anytime soon. For about $100 that's not a bad option. Looking forward to getting it sometime next month.

Have you tried the quiet mode personal function 21? It does help some. I have it on all the time.

Thanks for this - was quite interested, though I thought it would not solve the problem completely. However, on the 1DS Mark II the custom functions stop at 20.

Maybe there's something I should be doing.
