NAM1 Adapter Problem

coyot

Please Help! I purchased a Nam-1 adapter and it works perfectly on my N1 but on the ND it does not convey F-STOP information. All the regular N1 lenses work perfectly on the ND. Is there a compatiblity problem with the NAM-1 adapter on the ND? What a drag. Thanks for letting me know if you have an answer.

Thanks,

Michael.

Michael,
I had the same experience with my ND. As a consequence, I sent it in for repair and upon return it did the same thing. While the camera was in for repair the second time, I bought another NAM-1 adapter in case that was the problem. Shortly after getting it back from repair the second time I sold it, so, I can't tell you if it was the NAM-1 or some other problem. They had the camera for over two months the second time while they sent it to Japan, explaining to me that the repair required a clean room to make.

> Thanks for the depressing reply. I am really started to get "mad, really mad" at Kycoera. Maybe we need a class action lawsuit. They sold us on the concept of an integrated system from the 35mm film, 35 mm digital to the 645 medium format system. Then, not only does the system not "integrate" they ( a multi-billion dollar company ... Kycoera) decide to get out of the busiess. After taking my twenty grand for lenses and camera bodies since I bought into there concept of an integated system! Deceptive trade practice?

Humm, I thought I was the only one has the problem as I use the NAM-1 frequently with heavy lenses on tripod. I thought I bended the NAM-1 contacts from the weight.

Anyway, when the f-stop information disapears, it means the contact is lost. I just turn the NAM-1 clockwise a little (with my left hand, eye looking at the viewfinder), and the problem goes away.

A bit inconvinient, but nothing is perfect. Far better than using C/Y lens on Canon body with manual focus and worry about metering IMO. I am just happy to be able to shot with my C645 lenses with the ND/N1. As far as integration concern, I have no complain. Room for improvment, sure, a lot. Hopefully, I can afford a digital back and forget about the NAM-1.

i get the same problem with some of my lenses on both the n1 and nd. and the same remedy...a slight twist applied to the lens. not too confidence inspiring, but it works fine.

The NAM-1 works fine on my N-1 but didn't work on two different NX bodies I had. I couldn't find anything in product literature or manuals about that.

Last night I again tried to "twist" the adapter on the ND and it still did not work. I twisted both the connection between the NAM-1 adapter and the camera body and the lens to the NAM-1 adapter. It just did not work. Yet on my N-1 absolutely no problem.

Does somebody have the support phone number for TOCAD?

Thanks,

Michael.

If you call the old Contax/Kyocera support number you get a new number for Tocad: 973-428-9800.

I called this number and selection 3 is for Contax cameras. I had to leave a message. It will be interesting to see how quickly they respond.

Dirk,

Thanks for asking. Unfortunately, I was never able to make it work with the ND (the nam-1 adapter). No problems with the N1. I tried to contact TOCAD about the problem, no less than 4 times. I left messagages, but never had a response. This really depressed me. How can Kyocera have sold (for thousands of dollars) professional equipment, and then have no after sale support? How can I continue to invest in Contax equipment, knowing that if a camera fails, there may be no repair facility? This has really depressed me. Obviously, no other manufacturer is stepping up to the plate to continue the brand. In my mind, the Contax system is dead. Another technological marvel that has died and gone to heaven. I am going to purchase as a stop gap measure the Olympus Evolt-500 when it comes out.

Hi Michael,

sorry to hear your bad experience with Tocad. I heard it from several sources that there seems to be a problem with the combination ND and NAM-1. I use a NAM-1 myself withnthe N1 and had no problems. Never got the chance to test it on a ND.

You can try to make a call into the UK next week. Browse

And ask for Frazer Allen. Tell him that you are coming from Contaxinfo.com and I sent you. Maybe he can help better, if there is at all a solution for this...

Hi Michael,

I have gotten an e-mail from Frazer. He will be difficult to reach also next week. This week he is out of the office.

He told me that there was a modification about 4 years ago. I will follow up on this within the next weeks and report back here, as soon as I have new information...

Please wait before buying the Olympus E-500 or keep at least you ND. I am seduced more and more to the ND and it would be great if Marc, Irakly, DJ et alii could share here with us the newest
Contax ND Raw file workflow know-how with all those "dirty" tricks to get most out of an ND.

I have to check, but I thought that I buid here in the forum years ago a section especially for the ND workflow- But this is a long time ago and new software is available, so we a have a totally new situation here.

I read somewhere here in the forum that the new Photoshop CS2 would help the ND also a lot with Noise reduction of te RAW files. We have to check all that. Marc said once, that Irakly is the "master" in ND Raw file optimization. We have so many ND users here, who can help each other easily, this will be fun...

Dirk,

I remember posting an ND workflow post a long time ago - I did think you had opened up a workflow section but can't find it. Maybe it was to some other thread? I guess it's time for a new workflow section

Hi DJ,

yes, it will be defintely somewhere here in the forum. I just started to read again the old ND postings, starting from 2002. That are hundreds of commenst. It will take a few hours to scan through all of them.

I will try to make some summaries of these old and long threads, so that it will be easier for new users to get an overview what is as of now the pro and cons of all ND-related features & workflows. Similar to what I started with the battery issue..

For the N Digital workflow, I guess we have to update this with the newest software versions and third party products. Ther has been so much improvement obviously with Photoshop CS2 et alii...

There is such an impressive know-how already there from Marc, Irkaly, you and many others about the ND. It is just a joy to read all that in restroperspective
