Old MF lenses in digital SLRs

That's the good news.

The bad news is that you not only don't get autofocus, you don't get automatic metering or automatic stop-down on taking a photo. AND these adapters have lens elements in them which change the effective focal length, making it longer. AND these elements may degrade the optical quality of your lens. AND the DSLRs already have a built-in cropping factor, so a 50mm normal lens comes out somewhere between 88mm and 160mm depending on the specific adapter. (You can find adapters which have no lens element, but those don't focus to infinity, IIRC.)

Robert, won't you at least be able to shoot in A (aperture-priority) mod= e and maintain correct metering TTL for shutter speed as long as you're = viewing at your shooting aperture? That's the way it's worked with the M= axxum series and adapted MD lenses (and even if you view wide open, then= step down prior to shooting, the cameras still meter in the instant bef= ore the shutter opens, still giving you the proper exposure per the mete= ring system), and metered Manual should be an option as well, no?

In the final analysis, however, you are still looking at a kludge which will turn a jewel like the 21mm/2.8 into just another standard lens. > > Joe Pietruch (Camhound) asked:
