Dear members,

Finally! Panasonic added to its well-known DFD autofocs system in the new fullframe cameras S5 II and S5 IIx also PDAF (Phasedetections-Autofocus). Yesterday they published the press release and the first reviews are available already on youtube.

The new Lumix S5 II and Lumix S5 IIx have both 24MP, both have now Hybrid AF system. A new PDAF (Phasedetections-Autofocus) plus the well-known Lumix DFD system combined. This is the first time that Panasonic uses PDAF in its ILCs, which is kind of groundbreaking for the L-Mount alliance and probably also for future Lumix MFT cameras.

More details in our L-Mount subforum of Camera-info.com.

But Panasonic published in their press release also a new wideangle zoom, which is exciting too. The new 14-28/4-5.6 Macro (!) wideangle zoom with 77mm filter size has the same lenght and weight (ca. 346g) as the well-known 20-60 zoom. Thanks to this, they can be used on a gimble without changing anything.

It is impressiv to see, how many native L-Mount lenses (well above 60) are available today from the L-Mount alliance partners Leica, Panasonic and Sigma. From small and compact with aperture rings up to big and heavy or optimized for Video and gimbal use. For almost every preference there is a lens available in native L-Mount. PLus third party products.

So what do you think about this move from L-Mount to include now cameras with PDAF? Tell us your opinion in the L-Mount section.
