I have a quick question about the Maxxum 7xi. I happened to have one that needed to be repaired (shutter issue), and sent it in. Minolta contacted me and said they are sending a refurb maxxum 7 in place of the 7xi.

Any particular reason for that? (maybe just too broken to fix? seemed to work just fine except for a little bit of sticking in one shutter from some weird gunk) I'm also wondering about it because Minolta supposedly has replacement shutters to fix the camera too. They gave no explanation to the local repair center.

So, can anyone key in? Was that a good idea to allow that to happen?

In a related subject, I now I have Hove Maxxum/Dynax 7xi manual that is in good condition. :)

BTW, you can see the shutter problem here:

Victor,

since the Maxxum 7 is a newer camera and has improved features compared to the 7xi, you should be happy about it. If Minolta sais, it would be a refurbished model, I would not take that too seriously. I guess it is a brand new one, but they can not tell you that. I do not think that they have so many "refurbished" models laying around

You can see very often, that the spare parts for cameras to rapair/replace a not working model are very rare. Each manufacturer gives a so called "final order" if they stop to produce a certain model. After that the repair parts last still for a certain time, most likely 3-5 years. After that, no repair is possible anymore. I think this is the reason why they replaced yours with the newer Maxxum 7.

I got the camera...it's great...I can't believe how much better the camera is.

BTW, the issue was that the motherboard was messed up or something along the line, and they thought it'd be too expensive to repair, so they just sent me a Maxxum 7. It looks like it's brand new, in box with everything.

I've bought a Custom Function Card xi for my 700SI and 7xi cameras on e-bay, but I didn't get the instruction manual.

Please can someone scan the manual and e-mail me the English part of the instructions. You can contact me on iburgess@iprimus.com.au
