Why Sony / Minolta at all?

Oh ya, .... wouldn't you just know it !

Talk about lousy timing !! My A1 is barely a month old !!!!!

The DSLR really is coming. Got this from Minolta 5 mins ago.

Dear Minolta User,

Thank you for your interest in a Minolta Dynax Digital SLR. You have
previously contacted us in regards to this product class. As we did not
have a product to inform you of at that time we have registered your
details, in preparation to contact you when we did.

Now that time has arrived.

In a few days the PMA (Photo Marketing Association) annual show will open.
The location this year will be Las Vegas. This is an important event within
the photographic industry and is often used to launch new products. In
recent years Minolta has used it to unveil numerous models including the
DiMAGE 7.

This will be the first international show where the new Konica Minolta
brand will be present. This is an ideal opportunity to show the vision and
direction of the new company.

The embargo of these new products will be lifted on 11th February 21:00
CEST. As Las Vegas is eight hours behind the UK this translates as 12th
February 05:00 here.

With the speed of the Internet official information will begin to appear
almost immediately. Please look to these websites to have details published
first.

Konica Minolta is also going to host information on these products. We are
planning to have information available on the user information and
education website;

This is a registration based website for users of Konica Minolta products.
Please ensure you register ahead of time. It is also from this website that
you will gain updated information as it becomes available.

I don't know that I will be up at 5am to find out the details.

But given that the new A2 CCD is 8 then the DSLR will surely be a minimum of 10 and may even trump the Canon and go for 13.

Looks like Minolta finally woke up and smelt the pixels.

What's happening here, everyone gone comatose ????

Here is your Digital SLR !!!!!!!, c/w interchangeable existing lenses ! Yes I know, Minolta is only claiming 6 mega pix, but you can bet when it hit's the shelf for retail in the fall, it'll be a 10 pix. Anyone noticed that Minolta kept it under lock and key by any chance? Think of a good reason can you?

Ah, the A2, ya I'm miffed. My A1 is less than a month old. Luckily the A2 won't hit the shelves till the fall, another six months or more from now. By then, the Maxxum 7 Digital will be here and ready to go, and another of Minolta's black boxes will be resting on my shelf.

i bought my first minolta a range finder in thialand in 1965 a slr in 1965 also and have owned a minolta since then and i have had a bunch of them more than my wife knows about since to her they all look alike thank goodness she doesnt notice the numbers and letters are diffreant. have only had one of them die on me for no reason i have had some off brands but always came back why you may ask minolta feels like a well built camera and has the clunk sound i love so much with the manuels and the hi-tech look feel and sound for the auto focus modles i have had all of my af have been black since they all look alike been temped to try a silver and black af but have resisted the urge cant wait for the 7d she wont know the diff

Any chance they'll make a digital back for the Minolta 9. I hate to shelf this awsome camera just to go buy a digital based on the 7 body. Hey Minolta throw us 9 users a bone!

No chance at all. Everyone who can afford a Dynax 9, has already bought a N***n or C***n digital reflex. Minolta isn't yet up to professional digital reflexes like Canon 1D and Nikon D2H.

I decided to get an SLR based on the extremely sharp pictures my girlfriend could get with her Yashica. A buddy had an x700 so for no other reason than that I went looking for a Minolta AF SLR. I started with an 7000i. Sold it and bought a 7xi, bought another used 7000i as a backup. Sold the 7000i and bought a Maxxum 7. Now it's all about the lenses. Oh yeah, and somewhere along the line I did pick up a old Mamiya 645 1000S. I do love my Minoltas though!
